OA-116 Silver Light or Refoam?

Post by lkarty »

Acquired a pair of OA-116's and I'm wondering if I should try to refoam or replace the mids (haven't looked at the bass yet).

After reading many posts, it seems like Silver Flutes will work as replacement, but wondering if anyone has insight regarding pros/cons of replacement vs restoration.

Thanks!

IF you have the original mids, refoam as the speakers otherwise are impossible to find (wrong impendance). Concerning Silver Flute, read Carlssonkult on the net and let Google translate.

Refoamed originals are always best. But sometimes they are not possible to refoam because of bad spider.
I don't know of any good replacement for 16 ohms mid.
Nowadays you can buy 5.3 ohm bass https://www.hifikit.se/b65oa-iv.html. A couple of years ago there where only 8 ohms available. At that time 4 ohm SilverFlute was an alternative. I used them in a pair of OA2212 and I think they where better than B65oaII 8 ohm.
OD-11(T22+B65OAII), 3xOA12(T22+B65OAII), OA52.N, 3xL8, SC6, SC6.2

Thanks for the info! Looks like they have an 8 ohm (with resistors) for the mids at hifikit? If refoaming isn't possible, hopefully they ship to the US.
