Hi,
2 weeks ago I bought a pair of oa14.
The build in woofers are the Skytech 902.127.
The woofers are new. I think there is to few Bass.
If I want to replace the woofers, should I use the P833599 (WR165)
or better the 833429 (WF 165) if I can´t get the P831881 (SC 165).
Tech. Data of peerless woofer:
CS 165 WF165 WR165
Fs(Hz) 46.2 47.5 36.2
Qts 0.35 0.34 0.28
Vas(l) 22.4 20.7 32.2
If I compare the data the WF165 is near to the CS165.
Are these data important or not?
Run in: How much time will it cost to run in a woofer, until he has the full performance.

I had a similar problem getting the 831881 (SC165)'s in Australia. I tried to import two but they got lost in transit. The recommended "Woofer" is the 831881, and Carlsson recommends that you use that one which is available from HiFi Kit, http://www.hifikit.se. However get onto their website; if you don't speak Swedish and can't find the drivers email them or ring them as they speak English well.
I have 2 OA14's with the 833599 in them and they perform very well. A note though supply is very short although I know of someone that still has a few at the moment at about $32US so if you don't find any email me.I'm actually buying a couple more in the next couple of days.
Martin and the guys from Carlsson will definitely recommend the 831881 which is called the "Carlsson B65-oa" on Hifi Kit's website as this driverr is designed specificaly for Carlsson speakers and is different from the two other drivers you mentioned in having a paper cone and a short circuit ring. In retrospect I would have fitted them myself, but the local Peerless distributor still had 833599's in stock so I got them off him.
At the same time if you can grab some CT62 tweeters as they make an incredible difference to the OA14. Also if you can use the new "Y" configuration (refer to some of the posts earlier in this thread and you can see it in the photos on this website). The CT62's too are now out of production.However I have been told by a US based speaker dealer that there are moves to make a copy of this tweeter.
If you do these mods I think you will be very happy. I was (and thats an Undestatement).
Some people have done horrible things to Sonabs. I bought a set of OD 11's a few months back on Ebay because extenally they were in excellent condition but somebody had put car speakes and tweeters into them and they still managed to sound half decent. The drivers were one third the weight (in KG) of the 833599 and the tweeter was absolute rubbish.
Now they have been upgraded with the 833599 and the CT62 , they sound great again
If you want to get your hands on the other drivers you mentioned you better move quickly because there are not many left (Peerless have discontinued production).
If you read the eight pages of this post you will find some really good info on restoring OA14's. I'm waiting for details of the Filter modification from CarlssonPlanet at the moment.
It is also a good time if you do this to upgrade the wiring and bypass the "Tone" Plugs on top of the speaker that are as you can probably see get very corroded. If you have not already done so check out the Carlsson Planet main page on Upgrading speakers and the section on the OA 14's. All good info. I've done the lot to all my speakers and sometime I just smile because the sound so nice. I use them in a Home theatre set up with 2 OA14's as mains, 2 OD11's as rears and 2 OD11 (hookedup in parallel) as a centre.
I also use the OA14's as a stereo pair and they sound really great.
I am waiting for the new Carlsson centre; which I will try to get my hands on when it is finally released.

One further thing after reading your question. The 833429 has foam surrounds against rubber surrounds fir the 833599 and I believe the 831881 (which would be my driver of choice). I don't know where you live but "foam rot" is a real problem in this part of the world (Australia) as evidently our UV levels are high.
If you put these drivers in and there are no other problems it will fix your Bass problem. They OA14's with this driver in really go quite low (I think about 42Hz according to the specs) and I find that they have a nice Bass sound (if you know what I mean). I have my Subwoofer X-over for "Home Theatre" set at sixty to eighty Hz and I'm certainly not lacking in Bass, and they give plenty of "Bass" in Stereo when the sub is By-Passed by the amplifier/Receiver (a Rotel RSX-1056).

I refoamed my bass drivers a few months ago with initially good results. Recently however I have been getting a nasty buzzing went I crank it up.
After removing the driver and giving a close inspection I have noticed that the spider below the one has become hard and nowhere near as flexible as the driver from the the other side.
I was wondering if anyone else has refoam and perhaps replaced the spiders on their drivers. My question wold be where did you get the replacement spider from?

I know Tom who runs the place so I if you would like make some initial enquiries if you could tell me what driver its for. Sonab's seem to be more popular here now than for a long time, if you take the interest they are attracting on ebay as an indication so I am guessing they would would have stock, He also repairs and upgrades Sonab's so he knows them well. I assume you are talking about the original Sonab (Peerless) SC-165 . I got some repaired about three years ago and the guy who repaired them got the bits there, so he had the bits then.
I also have two spare bass drivers ; from 1976 vintage OD-11's that have been reconed (they do sound nice) and I might be prepared to part with these (one has a slightly loose connection for the speaker lead ie. it can spin but I am sure that can be fixed), but I would have to think about that because all of the 165 Peerless bass drivers are becoming very hard to get, but at the moment on the other hand they are just collecting dust.
Let me know if you want any info from Tom and I can chase it up and email the info to you.

I have e-mailed Tom at Speakerbits.com who need some dimensions for the spider and then he can supply me with the right part,,, this causes a slight problem for me. It looks like I will need to carefully disassemble my driver so I can measure it. I am not sure if the cone will survive another foam removal... Has anyone out there measured the spider on the peerless unit so I can supply these measurements Tom needs. I would like to have the replacement parts before I perform such surgery.

I may be able to help you here. I will get one of my spare drivers out of storage tommorrow and email you with any identification marks. If they are the same I could take one down to Tom one day next week (its about 7 miles away if you still use miles in England) . By physically seeing the speaker Tom should be able to tell me what you need and I could either email you the details or you could deal with Tom directly. I would also need to know whether your speakers were upgraded to the MK 1V version but that seems unlikely.
The alternative is to buy two B65 oa's from Sweden if you can still get them. For info on the Peerless Speakers types for Sonab check "Restoring or Upgrading" on the Carlsonplanet Homepage URL http://www.carlssonplanet.com/index.asp?lang=&p=oa14
Then scroll down the page to Woofers, you will see it. ( I hope I'm not telling you something you already know.)
