Drive Units
Drive Units
I have a pair or Sonab OA14's which I purchased in 1974. I replaced the drive units in the late 1980's as the cones perished and continued using them until 1999. I then purchased a pair of Carlsson OA50's.
The OA14's have been in storage since then and the drive units have perished. Does anyone know what drive units I should buy for the OA14's?...Also, there is no support in the UK for Carlsson..I knew someone here in the UK whose father was a friend of Stig!..yes, and he managed to get these for me. So I wonder where I could get replacement for the main drive units on the OA50's when they too eventually expire...
thanks all
David

Hi!
The are no units available at the moment but I think the carlssonplanet are working on it.
If new replacement unit get available i think you can by them from "www.hifikit.se" it is in swedish. Click on "kontaktinfo" to get email, phone no. and so on.
For the OA14 i think there is another unit you can consider. From "www.rauna.com" "http://www.rauna.com/slides/sjutumjpg.html". They made loudspeakers from concrete in the 80's, njord, Leira, tyr and more. The 7 inch unit is available in 6.5 inches. The units are realy good, I have a par of Tyr, it sounds wonderfull. You must ask rauna if it can be used in a 35 liter cabinet like the OA14.

I believe the best is to get new surrounds,if the driver are i a descent
condition regarding cone and spider. There are several sources for
surrounds out there.I don't recommend to use another brand of driver.

You could possible also find right Peerles replacement drivers somewhere in Europe (or somewhere else) if you search around little on for example internet. The drivers was called Peerles SC165 (8 ohm). There should also exist som other important number for the drivers I think but I can´t find it now. Anyway they was also called something else in the end like B65oa or something but thoose was not sold outside Sweden if I have it right in my mind. But as Stefan told a new foam (or rubber) edge is also a good way to go.

Hi!
The Peerless SC165 and B65oa that is used in Carlssonspeakers is custom-made for Carlssonspeakers. That means that the chances of anybody having a stock is slim at the best.
Both these drivers are out of production now.
However a new driver is being completed now and we expect it to be avaiable during the spring.
Otherwise getting new surrounds is better than changing the drivers to another model.
Best regards
Martin
PS
Should you be lucky to find drivers they should be marked with Cat.No 831881.

Exactly that little number you wrote in your "ps" was what I meant....

Thanks for your help guys. Its a real shame Carlsson went out of business and stopped making these speakers. Ever since I purchased the OA14's in 1974 I have stuck with the Stig Carlsson sound...currently using a 15 year old Arcam Alpha amplifier to drive the OA50's though thinking of changing that.
Its not!!!djparker wrote:Its a real shame Carlsson went out of business and stopped making these speakers.

Hello David (djparker)
Just to clarify a few things:
- Carlssonspeakers are still produced by Larsen Hifi (the Carlssonfatory).
- Stig Carlsson is dead since 1997
- There is a trust upholding Stig Carlssons work.

maybe try these as replacements, i have been looking for some woofers for my OA14s and will be ordering these shortly. its parameters match very closely and the mounting flange outer diameter should fit into the plastic OA14s speaker mounts nicely (snugly).
