OA2212 - a rekindled love

Post by garrulous »

Hi from Australia
An interesting story that may strike a chord with some of you.
Back in the 1970s in Sydney my flat was robbed of, among other things, my precious OA14s and P4000 Amp.. When I went to replace them soon after in 1978, to my horror I found that they were no longer being produced and I had to seek out second-hand replacements which I did (and still have and use to this day). I also grabbed the last pair of OA116s retailing in Australia and had them shipped from Perth,WA. During my Sonab searches, I happened on a pair of OA2212s retailing at Instrol HiFi in Sydney that had been put aside on layby for a customer sometime before. I kept going back there hoping that either the customer had cancelled or Instrol HiFi had got sick of waiting for payments outstanding and would release them to me. Sadly, the customer eventually paid them off and I missed out and I have never forgotten that "lost love" and have thought of "her" often in the intervening years.
On Ebay Australia recently a restored pair of OA2212s drew considerable interest from all over the world. It was the description of the item that immediately rang a loud bell with me as these speakers had been bought by the original buyer at Instrol HiFi in Sydney in 1978! After very spirited and determined bidding, to my total delight I managed to score them, at very considerable, but deserved, cost. I think there were only three pair ever sold in Australia and I now possess that same pair that I missed out on 34 years ago. Maybe there is a god, after all !!
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
How much did you pay for the OA2212?

Don't forget to check the foamrings! Speakerbits (Aus) can support you with correct rings if nessesary.

Regards
Jan-erik
