OA14 Restore - Y configuration?

Post by Mcraiga »

Hi,  I am new to the forum and have only been able to gain a little information because of not being able to translate.

I have a set of OA14s that are generally in great shape.  The SC165's died of rot about 4 years ago and not knowing where to get exact replacements I replaced them with some speakerlab 6.5 long voice coil woofers.  Now that I have more knowledge and funds I am interested in replacing these with new SC165's and would also like to upgrade the tweeters to the Peerless CT62's.

I saw a reference in the OA 14 section recommending a new "Y" configuration for the tweeters and would like more information on it.  I would also like more detail on mounting the new tweeters (pictures of the wooden block method would be great.

I love these speakers! I bought them new in 1976 and have pampered them all these years.  They have the rosewood veneer and, except for a few cat scratches are fine.

As a second issue I have always wondered about pairing the OA14's with a good subwoofer.  Has anyone done this and do you have recommendations about whether this improves or detracts from the sonab sound?

Thank you for any help and suggestions.

The description for the "Y"-configuration and an other one for a proper crossover network modification for the CT62 tweeters can be ordered from Carlssonplanet...
Just send them an e-mail at: [email protected]
The cost is 150+125 SEK

I'm sure that they can send you these documents together with a simpel translation of relevant parts of it...

Pairing the OA14 with a sub is no problem if it's a good sub :D  preferably with the possibility for a low crossover setting with a sharp slope i.e 35Hz, 24dB/octave...

Thank you for your help Stefan.  I have sent an email per your instructions.  I am very happy I found this site.  I know of no one in my area who has Sonab speakers and it is great that there is such a community of people as crazy about them as me. :)
