Hello again!

Just double checking on the Identity of the Peerless woofer.
Are you quite certain that it is the correct unit you get from Madisound?
Id: P831881, Carlsson B65-oa (SC165)

The reasons that I ask are:
- I had an E-mail conversation earlier with one person in the US who said that Madisound could't supply the correct Peerless woofers but offered a "replacement" unit instead.
- The units are exclusive for Carlsson.

But if you find them anyway, just carefully check the ID number so you get the right unit.

Good luck

Martin

Martin,
at first Madisound offered a different driver. When I quoted Stefan, and gave the link he supplied above, they spent some time doing some research. Here's the email I received:

Bob,

Apparently we can get the 831881 woofer. The cost is 43.00 and will take about 30 days to get it from Denmark. Shall we order it for you?

It appears I will be getting the OEM replacement from Madisound. THANKS TO STEFAN!!!!!!!! I'd also like to take the time to thank everyone else who has responded! What a wonderful resource.

Oh yeah, the markings are gone on the tweeter jumpers. Anybody want to take a stab at a diagram? I'm hesitant to play the speakers much until I get the mid bass drivers replaced. I'm suffering from a condition we call foam rot, here in the states.

Bob

Save your old drivers and get replacment foam surrounds for them...

It's quite easy to repair them and these repaired units will come in handy when you bring home the next pair of Carlsson... as I'm shure you will...... :D  :D

Here is a Canadian vendor with suitable surrounds...

Thanks again Stefan!

Only one of the mid bass drivers is OEM. The other driver is a really inexpensive one that isnt worth saving for anything. I paid $50 dollars locally for my pair of A-14's. I guess I can afford the new drivers. Not sure how that compares with the used speaker market over there....

Hi Bob

50 bucks is a good price...

People in Sweden gladly pay 100$ for a pair of OA14 in the condition yours are in...

OA14 uppgraded to .3 version (new bass drivers, new tweeters and a moderate crossover modification) are often sold in the range of 400-500 $ in Sweden.
In this state they sound really great and they are worth it...

Greetings Bob!

I’ve just undertaken the enterprise of restoring a pair of OA-14 to .3 version.

This includes replacing the original woofers with Peerless B65-oa 8 Ohm and the original tweeters with Peerless CT62 8 Ohm, as well as positioning them in Y-configuration.

SSC ( The Stig Carlsson Trust) has developed a modification of the cross over in order to address a problem with the CT62. The CT62 has a moderate lift around 5 kHz and in order to attenuate this, some components has to be exchanged in the cross over. The description of the cross over modification can be ordered from SSC for approximately USD 19.

SSC has also developed a new positioning of the tweeters in order to take care of a comb filter effect that is caused by the equidistant grid pattern positioning of the original tweeters. The description of the Y-configuration of the tweeters can be ordered from SSC for approximately USD 23.

I suggest that you send an email to CarlssonPlanet. I’m confident that they will assist you in ordering the documents, with relevant parts translated, from SSC.

Best regards
