Greetings everyone!
This is my first post, I have only just aquired a pair of oa14's.
These were hard to find in Australia!
Of course there are repairs needed, the mids need replacing.
I havne't checked the rest out yet, I was hoping to gain some knowlage from you clever people.
Firstly is there anywhere in Australia to get updated replacement parts?
Is there a reputable audio repair company to test the tweeters and boards?
Thankyou for your time in advance, and I hope I will get to enjoy my Sonab's in the near future!
(I am now on the hunt for a pair of 2212's, as I have the Carlsson bug already)

Hi

Parts for OA-14 if you want to upgrade your speakers can be found at www.hifikit.se.

The page is in swedish but they do business abroad.

New woofer is B65oa-II, new tweters are T22oa, you also need a filter-upgrade if you get these units.

For repairing your woofers I woauld find the company "speakerbits".

Best regards

Martin

Martin, thanks for your very useful information.

I have already contacted "speakerbits" and a rebuild is forthcoming.

I also it might have been a bit presumptuous of me to think I could find a set of 2212's in Australia.
It looks like are scarce all over the world!! (alougth I still won't give up!)

I still will be very happy with my 14's I'm sure.
Thanks again for all your help.
Regards.
Geoff.

Hi!

I think you are right, the Sonab OA-2212 is not a common speaker anywhere but Sonab did sell speakers in Australia so it's not impossible.

Keep you eyes open, you might get lucky.

Best regards

Martin

Thanks again Martin.
Another question for you, I have found a pair of od11's.
Are these worth collecting? and how much do you think I should pay?

Regards.
Geoff.

Hi

The OD-11 is in some ways the most impressing of all Sonab-speakers.

It takes very little space and still gives a very good sound.
Naturally some of the lowest bass is missing but not so much as you would think.

They are definately worth grabbing, I've seen prices ranging from 70 - 350 Euros here in Sweden depending on satus of speakers.

Best regards

Martin

A pair in good condition in teak was sold today at the Swedish ebay http://www.tradera.com/auction/auction. ... =109016160 for ~€200 with the woofers in need for new edges. It was also the "cheap" export-version without screws in the bottom and also lacking the tone-jumper. 8-)

I dont know if anyone is interested but I just built a modified clone of the OA 2212. It was very difficult but very rewarding. I constructed the Mid housing using a 1/4 inch plywood frame then fiberglassing the inside and outside to get a total of about 1/2 inch thickness. I couldn't find 24 suitable tweeters so I used 18 close out ones from parts express that were 6 ohms which nets the same impedance as the 12 tweeters did. The woofer section I used two 8 inch woofers in a push pull configuration. The mid ranges were 6 inch silver flute 4 ohm.

Hi

Sounds fun!

Do you have any pictures so we can better understand your clones?
That would be nice to see.

Best regards

Martin
