Carlsson OA-52 speakers

Post by quadmatrix82 »

Hello all, well today I was lucky enough to purchase a pair of Carlsson OA-52 speakers, when I arrived home I realised that both of the speakers are a R - yes that's right one pair of RIGHT speakers - no left?? Is this going to affect the sound quality? Or is it just an aesethic issue? its so unfortunate - sound nice but not a matched pair? any advice???

How unfortunate - and unacceptable. Is there a chance that you could reverse the purchase? I would think it's pretty unlikely to find one oa52L alone. Not to mention to find a pair of oa52L. If not your seller knows what happened to them?

hi there, well i wanted to hear people's opinion of these speakers first- are they useless like this or should i try and get my money back?? surrounds are in average condition also - thy will need to be replaced in the future - its such a shame, i love the design and think it will be impossible to find another pair - what do you think i should do? keep them or return them??

How much did you pay for them? If it was really cheap you could use them as mono speakers or something (like "ambient speakers"). One in each room or both in the same room. Because of the design (both function and aestetics) you wont get a good stereo image. If you turn the left oa52R one step, you cover up the bass port against the wall, and you have to make a ugly change of the back wall frame.

But I would not repair them for a high cost just to have them for mono use.

I know there's a guy who is going to publish the blueprints of oa52 on the internet (it's been taking some time, how is it going with that...?). Then you could build two oa52L :)

hi there, thanks for your advice so far, they don't owe me much money, maybe $50 AUD, i was more concerned about the sound quality rather than the money...even if i built a Left OA-52 it would never look the same or matched with the right one - sigh...surrounds need doing in the future as well..maybe just maybe someone out there has two left OA-52 and is in the same situation as me :(

Have you spoken with the seller about this? Maybe you can trace back where the other "pair" have gone, and then switch with that person.

i will contact him tomorrow, i don't think he knew - to him they just looked like speakers..to me they look like carlssons :)

for now they can sit in the corner whilst i work out what i want to do...cabinets are in fair order, all drivers working but the surrounds will need replacing in the near future...these appeared to have a wider sound stage than my sonab oa-14, do you agree?
