OA2212 - Renovation in English

Post by [email protected] »

Hi
I am really sorry that my swedish is really bad.
I sincerly hope that someone could help me out with a pair of speakers
I got last week.
They are a pair of OA2212 and as have been reading on this site they should be rather good.
Honestly they sound really good, but I was disappointed with the bass and discovered that the rubber edge was gone. The former owner has been playing them in that state for quite some time. He had restored the edge on the middle tones.
My question is now:
Would I be better of with getting some new bass modules. As I have read, but not fully understand, they are still produced, but something is wrong with them???

Hope someone can help and guide me.

Best regards

Hi!

There are new bass and midrange drivers for the OA2212 speakers, but only 8 ohm drivers, so they are really only an exact replacement for the midrange drivers in the OA2212. New 5,3 ohm bass drivers are under way and should be out by late spring or at least until summertime. So my advice would be to make a complete upgrade/restoration when the new 5,3 ohm drivers are out. And at the same time mount the new super Peerless CT62 tweeters and modify the filters according to the upcoming (?) instructions which (I think) the Stig Carlsson Foundation will release by the time the new drivers are out.

Hello!

Go to http://www.carlssonplanet.com, choose english version, see hints for restauration.

You can read about restauring your old Carlsson/Sonab speakers there.

Best regards

Hi
Waiting until summer sounds possible.
Does anybody know how expensive these drives would be?

Is there any other alternative.
Could I modify something to make the SC165 (8 Ohm) drives fit?

Sorry if the question is stupid. I do not know much about this stuff.
I just want a pair of loudspeakers that sounds really good (and they do) and most
important: My wife likes them both their looks and their sound and she is really picky about the looks (of the speakers).

Best regards

I envy you,

my wife is also very picky about looks, but she has decided that she do not like them - she has forced me to re-veneer them from jakaranda to oak. :(

The price of these new unit willl be basically the same as the 8 Ohm version, aprox. 600 SEK.

Changing to the 8 Ohm version without doing some corrections in the crossover will change the tonal balance of the speaker, the change can be done but it is not so easy...

Better to wait until the release of the new units...

Your Wife obviously have good taste... hold on to her :)

Hello again!

If it is only the foam-surround that is defective on the unit it is possible to install new surrounds on the speakers.

If you are a handy man you can do it on your own.
Perhaps somone here can talk You through the process.

If you are not a handy man, get someone to do it for you.
It should be possible to find somone in Denmark but I don´t know where, if not there are companies in Sweden.

Keep on asking and we´ll get you there.

Best regards
